We spoke to the Director of Inti and thanks to Jackie´s ability to speak Spanish (I´m still struggling), we are going to visit the children´s families next week.
Inti is beginning a program to sponsor some of the extremely poor children. For the most part, these are children of farmers that live in the mountains outside of Cusco. The children come to Inti after school and then walk and take buses by themselves sometimes for up to a half hour to get home.
Our goal is to visit their homes, meet the families, and determine exactly what things the families are in desperate need of. After the visit, we are planning on using some of the money that you have donated to help these families. Jackie and I are extremely excited about this and are taking a 1.5 hour class on Quechua tonight, so that we can interact a bit with the family. We´ll have a co-worker to help translate as well. Quechua is the native language that most of these families speak, most do not speak Spanish.
Jackie and I just wanted to thank all of you again for how generous you have been and please keep your fingers crossed that we are able to meet the families next week. Things in Peru move a bit slowly.
