No alcohol and bottles are allowed in the stadium. However, the people sitting next to us decided to bring in a CVS size plastic bag full of rum and coke. It seemed like many others did this as well. The people of Peru are certainly resourceful.
Here is a picture of Jackie and some friends from Ireland, Germany, Holland, and Florida that we met at school and went to the game with.

Two hours before the game, Jackie and I wondered why there was a barbed wire fence surrounding the field. The seats of the stadium were full at this point.

One hour before, we realized why there was barbed wire fence.

Here's a picture at game time. The stadium was completely packed because it was a very important game. There are no assigned seats and the staircases are packed with people too. It is every man and woman for themselves trying to find a place to stand.

Unfortunately, Cusco lost the match 3-0.

Your story reminded me of something I did a loooooooong time ago. When I was in college there was a similar restriction on bottles and cans at football games, so we triple-lined a duffle with trash bags and filled it with beer from a keg. We tied it off, put a bag of ice on the side, packed solo cups and took off for the game, taking turns carrying this incredibly heavy bag. At the gate they asked what was in the bag, we said "beer" and they took a look and let us in. We had a great time a the game.
Good to hear you're having fun!
